I have found that certain articles of clothing that are perfectly normal and fine to wear on the street or at the supermarket, or at the mall, or to your friend’s house, etc. are too avant garde for school.
Hmm. Perhaps because school is a really unique blend between casual, and formal attire, but rarely dressy.
